REN 531 : EARLY / MODERN ENSEMBLE
Following an early modern company model that seeks individual excellence through collaboration, this course will stage a professional-quality Shakespeare play at the Blackfriars Playhouse. Under the artistic vision and guidance of the directors, students take responsibility for their role and for their show. Approaches for this course include an in-depth investigation of language in service of character development, as well as physical training, ensemble building, and devising work centered around the play. This course is structured to introduce students to several mainstays of the MFA company model experience: co-direction, collaboration, administrative and production work, devising original performance, and staging a play for the Blackfriars Playhouse. Required for MLitt core.
