Post-MSN Nurse Educator Certification

The Post-MSN Nurse Educator Certificate is a 16-credit-hour, fully online asynchronous program designed to prepare registered nurses for academic and clinical teaching roles. Grounded in the AACN Essentials (2021) and the NLN Nurse Educator Core Competencies (2022), the curriculum emphasizes curriculum design, evidence-based teaching, assessment and evaluation, and leadership in nursing education. Students complete 300 hours of supervised practicum experiences applying educator skills in real-world settings. Offered in full-time and part-time options, the program equips program completers to advance nursing education and qualify for national certification as a nurse educator (CNE).

Accreditation
The Post-MSN – Nurse Educator Certificate is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (www.ccneaccreditation.org).

Program Mission
The mission of the Post-MSN Nurse Educator Certificate program at the Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences School of Nursing is to prepare highly skilled, compassionate, and innovative nurse educators who advance nursing practice and improve health outcomes through excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. In alignment with the mission and goals of the School of Nursing, this program develops graduates who embody professional integrity, foster inclusive and equitable learning environments, and apply evidence-based strategies to prepare the next generation of nurses. Graduates of the Post-MSN Nurse Educator Certificate program will be equipped to lead in academic, clinical, and community settings, supporting the transformation of nursing education and the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care.

Admission Requirements

PURPOSE: The purpose of the policy is to describe the criteria for admission to the Post-Master of Science in Nursing Certificate tracks

POLICY APPLIES TO: The policy applies to Post-MSN Certificate program applicants for admission.

CRITERIA FOR ALL POST-MSN CERTIFICATE PROGRAM APPLICANTS:

• Hold a master’s degree in nursing (MSN) or higher from an accredited nursing program
• Current unrestricted RN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or state participating in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA).
• Resume or CV
• Official transcripts
• Completion of undergraduate statistics course with a grade of "C" or better.
• 3.0 GPA or above out of a 4.0 scale in all undergraduate and graduate work

Note: Due to the competitive nature of the admission process applicants should understand that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into the program. Applicants will be screened, and the most qualified individuals will be invited for an interview.
