Coursework for Provisionally Licensed Teachers (CPLT) Certificate

The Coursework for Provisionally Licensed Teachers Certificate is uniquely designed for individuals who are currently employed, under a state-issued Provisional Teaching License, by a school division in Virginia. The goal of the certificate program is to move these individuals to become fully licensed teachers while offering an additional institutional credential (the certificate).  Mary Baldwin faculty and advisors provide professional and personalized educational support through advising and already established coursework to aid students from start to finish.

Requirements for the certificate include successful completion of the courses required for licensure that are noted in the letter issued with the Provisional Teaching License from the VDOE. The certificate requires a minimum of 12 hours of coursework. These 12 hours can be a combination of the required courses for licensure along with electives that may lead to add-on endorsements. Add-on endorsements include:

  • Special Education
  • Middle Education
  • Secondary Education
  • Gifted Education
  • ESL
