ENG 364 : AFRICAN AMERICAN LIT & THEORY (D)

Students will read works by African-American writers from the nineteenth century to the present and will explore a variety of genres including slave narratives, essays, fiction, and poetry. Analysis will be grounded close reading and literary theory and will consider the historical, cultural, and linguistic contexts for each text. Students will also explore the formal choices and experiments made by individual writers.
English Majors and minors are advised to take this course at the 300 level; all other students should take it at the 200 level. Students taking it at one level may not take it again at a different level.

Prerequisites

ENG 111 or any 200-level English Literature course or permission of the instructor.
