International Baccalaureate Assessments & Policies

The following are discipline-approved policies regarding credit awarded for IB subject tests. Scores of 5, 6, and 7 accepted. Unless otherwise indicated, no distinction between SL (standard level) & HL (higher level) Advising Requirement Codes in parentheses.

BIOLOGY-HL: (BIOL 111)

CHEMISTRY: (CHEM 121)

COMPUTER SCIENCE: no equivalent; 3 hours elective

ECONOMICS: SL: scores of 6 or 7 – ECON 101T and ECON 102 HL: 5, 6, or 7 – ECON 101T and ECON 102. IB score doesn’t qualify for Q credit, so scores combined provide S (ECON 101T) and I (ECON 102) Gen Ed credits.

ENGLISH: Language &; Literature: Score of 5 – ENG 102; Score of 6 or 7 – ENG 102 and ENG 111 
                   Literature: Score of 5 – ENG 102; Score of 6 or 7 – ENG 102 and ENG 111

ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS AND SOCIETIES: (BIOL 148) –and- (BIOL 149)

GEOGRAPHY: SL or HL: 5 and above – 3 credit hours of Social Science (S) elective

FILM: requires portfolio review by the department to determine appropriate credit

FRENCH LANGUAGE B: (FREN 201) –and- (FREN 202)

HISTORY OF THE AMERICAS: HIST 111 and 112

MATH: Math SL: 5 and above - credit MATH 159 (recommend Math 171)
             Math HL: 5 – credit MATH 211 (recommend Math 231 in Fall and Math 212 in Spring)
             Math HL: 6 or 7 – credit MATH 211 and MATH 212 (recommend Math 231 and Math 301)

MUSIC: SL or HL: 5 and above – credit 3 Music elective hours (MUSELGE)

PHYSICS: SL -or- HL: score of 5 or higher (PHYS 100) only 

SOCIAL &; CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY: (ANTH 120)

SPANISH LANGUAGE B: (SPAN 201) –and- (SPAN 202)

PHYSICS: (PHYS 100) only (5 or higher on SL –or- HL)

PSYCHOLOGY: (PSYC 111)

VISUAL ARTS A: In order to give credit for visual arts, we must first contact the student to see what their area of specialty was – (studio, art history) then   contact the appropriate professor for evaluation of credit. Possible portfolio evaluation.

Studio Art: recommended 3–6 hrs. of studio art, not tied to a specific studio course at MBU. Still must get in touch w/ professor regarding credit.
