ENG 264 : INTRO TO AFRICAN AMERICAN LIT

Students will read works by African-American writers from the nineteenth century to the present and will explore a variety of genres including slave narratives, essays, fiction, and poetry. Analysis will be grounded in close reading and will consider the historical, cultural, and linguistic contexts for each text. Students will also explore the formal choices and experiments made by individual writers.
